Solution for Unknown Device ACPI\INT33A0

ACPI\INT33A0 is referring to ACPI\INT33A0 Intel Smart Connect Technology and intel does provides the drivers for Windows 8 and Windows 10 here: Support for Intel Smart Connect Technology

What does this driver do?
The Intel Smart Connect Technology driver enables the system to resume from sleep mode and update supported web applications such as email.

Here is the quick download if you own a HP Notebook:
Version   1.0.7.0 REV: B (Windows 8 64-bit)
Download

Version 4.2.41.2499 REV: A (Windows 7/Windows 8 32/64-bit)
Download

Installing HP drivers for other model will work however it is not recommended and I think you need to get the permission from HP before using it with other brand.

2 Ways to Fix brightness not working windows 8.1

Brightness problem commonly related with your graphic driver or in some cases Monitor driver. Windows updates and Windows default driver (Installed automatically during Windows installation) most likely to be the culprit.

Before we start:
1. The graphic driver provides by your manufacturer is the most stable driver of all. So if you know how to download it from the support site, try to install them first.

2. If the problem occurs after windows update. You can easily revert back to the older driver by using system restore. Now change the windows update setting so that you can choose which updates you want to install and exclude graphic drivers update from the list.

Solution 1: Remove Drivers by Windows Updates
Windows updates could mess your graphic driver by installing latest driver version. For example version 10.18.10.3368 which remove the brightness functionality. So we need to revert back to previous stable version.

  1. Open device manager (Use Windows+R hotkeys to open Run dialog box, type the command of devmgmt.msc and click OK.)
  2. Look for Display Adapter, expand the list and right click on it and select update driver software. In my case it is Intel HD Graphic.
  3. Select browse my computer for driver software.
  4. Let me pick from a list of driver from my computer.
  5.  Select the previous driver version listed, example: Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000 Version: 9.17.10.2963
Notes:
In case step 5 does not work, you can repeat the step above and in step 5 choose Microsoft Basic Display Adapter from the list.  In theory - By using basic display adapter, it could reduce the overall graphic performance (However I does not know neither the overall performance change is noticeable nor if there are changes in performance at all).
    Solution 2: Fix Monitor Driver
In some cases Monitor driver is the problem, windows could select the wrong driver (because it is automatically installed), so we need to fix that.

    1. Open device manager (Use Windows+R hotkeys to open Run dialog box, type the command of devmgmt.msc and click OK.)
    2. Look for Monitors, expand the list and right click on it and select update driver software. (As you see in the picture above it shows Generic PnP Monitor, normally it would show other name such as Generic PnP Monitor (Standard) or a certain Brand name).
    3. Select Browse mu computer for driver software.
    4. Select Let me pick from a list of driver from my computer.
    5.
    6. Then select Generic PnP Monitor from the list. Click next and restart after the installation finish.
Let me know if you have any questions.

    Windows won't boot without flash Drive/USB Drive/CD

This problem cause by bootloader, a program that load your operating system. So, if your hard disk (internal) does not have the bootloader it won't boot to windows because no program will load your operating system (Windows XP/7/8/10 etc). In one case (Asus Notebook) the bootloader not installed in C partition (the windows partiton he use to install windows) but installed on the USB disk. So, without the USB disk he can't boot to windows.

So here how to fix it:

First of all Insert you installation Disk (either DVD or USB Stick)

    In Windows 8:
When installation windows appear Click Next - click Repair your computer

     click Troubleshoot
     click Advanced options
     choose Command Prompt
Then type: (press enter to execute the command and do it one by one)

    bootrec / fixmbr
    bootrec /fixboot

    Windows Vista/7:
It is the same method as Windows 8 you need to access the command prompt. to do this insert you installation Disk and select repair. Then select keyboard - Use recovery tools - Command prompt

The type the following command one by one and press enter after each line.

    bootrec / fixmbr
    bootrec /fixboot

You can also use Bootrec.exe by microsoft instead. I never try it and it is a lot to explain how to use this tools. so I just write the easiest method to fix this =p

Downgrade Windows 8 based PC to Windows 7

Most Windows 8 base PC such as HP Envy 15 notebook require BIOS/UEFI setup before you can downgrade it to Windows 7. Before we start I would like to point out important points:

    For this tutorial :
    • We use Internal DVD/CD- ROM as install disk. (change it base on your boot disk such as flash drive or external DVD/CD-ROM).
    • I strongly recommend to use Windows 7 SP1 because it is more stable and fix some bugs like remove pop-up notification about secure boot.

1.First step We need to access UEFI BIOS, here is how:
UEFI Firmware Setting on Windows 8
    1. Press the Windows key + C, or swipe in from the right edge of the screen to open your Charms.
    2. Click Settings. Click Change PC Settings. In PC Settings, select General.
    3. Scroll down to the bottom and Under Advanced startup, click Restart now.
    4. In the boot menu, select Troubleshoot.
    5. In the Troubleshoot menu, select Advanced options.
    6.  In the Advanced options menu, select UEFI Firmware Settings.
    7. Click Restart to restart the system and enter UEFI (BIOS).
    8. Make sure you already insert your windows 7 install disk before restart.
*UEFI/BIOS interface is different base on your notebook/PC

    2.  Upon restart enter BIOS, make this changes:
The secure boot and Legacy support may located at different location base on your BIOS
    • Legacy Boot or Legacy Support : Enable
    • Secure Boot : Disable
    • Boot order : Change the boot order by select your DVD/CD-rom as the first boot device.

    • note 1 : if you are installing using DVD) - If you are using USB Drive, make the USB Drive as the first boot device. Or - you can also change this boot device later (step 4)
    • note 2: you may need to press certain button to enter BIOS, example for HP 2000 you need to press F10
    • note 3 : New Bios - such Fujitsu AMI BIOS, secure boot is located under security panel. For most HP product it is located under system configuration.

3.Now press F10 to exit and save changes.

    4. If you already set your first boot device (in step 2), skip this step, if not, upon restart - press ESC and press F9 to select your boot device.
Press F9 to select your boot device (windows 7 installation disk)

    5. Select your boot device using the arrow key and press enter.(in this tutorial we use DVD/CD-Rom).
The Boot interface may look different base on your Notebook/PC
    6. All Done, Windows 7 will start to install right away, (tutorial to install windows 7).

    Partition Setup During Installation :

During Windows 7 installation, it will ask which partition you want to install windows 7. If you get the message:

    "Windows can't be installed on drive 0 partition x " ,

you need to delete all partition and create a new partition before installing windows 7.
You can still create multiple partition later on by using disk management in Windows 7, for now just create one partition for Windows 7 Installation as your C drive).

    Additional Notes.

    1. Not all Notebook/PC require this setup to downgrade to Windows 7, try to install Windows 7 normally first and if there is an error mean you do need  to setup the BIOS/UEFI.
    2. Windows 8 base PC - Refer to  PC/Notebook/Desktop design specifically for per-installed with Windows 8.
    3. If you have the USB 3.0 option on your BIOS, go to "System Configuration", "USB 3.0 Config in Pre-OS" and set to "Auto".
    4. If you are using USB Flash Drive as the boot device (Windows 7 install disk) - Make sure to format it as FAT 32 and use with USB 2.0 slot, do not use USB 3.0 slot.
    5. If you are Using SDD (mSATA drive) - Change the Sata otion to AHCI (we actually want to disable Intel Smart Response Technology).
    6. Each computer use different key to enter BIOS, check your manual for this or Google it. Here is some reference:
    • Asus : F8
    • Sony : F2
    • Gateway : F10
    • Gigabyte : F12
    • Dell : Del/F12
    • HP/Compaq : F2/ESC
    • Acer : F2/F12
    • eMachines : F10
    • Toshiba : F12
    • Fujitsu : F12

    Windows 8 Driver

Like always, when there are new Windows, most of us want to try it even it still BETA release. I blog for drivers about 3 years now, and a lot happen after the windows 7 release. The most common problem is no support for old model use old devices.
So, i try windows 8 this week, I'm not really interested on the OS but to see what did we need a new drivers for windows 7?

Let us go to the Vista age for a while to look to the whole situation,
When Vista released, you can't use driver from windows XP, and most of the model design for Vista did not have support in their official site for windows XP. Later, many Vista User dissatisfied with the performance and want to use XP. Then the big problem is, you can install XP, but where is the driver?
Similarly when windows 7 comes, people still want to use XP or Dual-boot , so where is the driver? this is the reason i build this blog, as my journal, my reference, to gather drivers and solution for this type of problems.

    Now comes windows 8,
There are no problems for newer model that design for windows 7, practically windows 8 driver are similar to those windows 7. I hope you guys don't misunderstand me, if you want to talk about direct X 12 or else, it is different from my intention. Example, after installing windows 8 you have no audio, so I'll try to find the driver so you get your audio in windows 8, but if the audio Quality is not as great as windows 7, it is a different topics. Not that i don't want to help, but i know myself, i know few things, and i don't speak something that I'm not really know about it.

I spent most of my time study the drivers and thousands of model, I'm not study the hardware specification in term of performance. The strength of window 7 is it automatically install most of your driver, and i believe this Microsoft enhance this feature, like em my desktop, after windows 8 installation, all driver installed properly.

Here i have initial opinion about the drivers:

    CHIPSET/Motherboard etc:

    INTEL
Inte 3,4,5 and 900 installed automatically, or by windows update. You can also use windows 7 drivers from intel website.

    AMD:
    South bridge Driver and Co-processor;
Windows 7 and vista drivers will do.

    Nvidia:
Use windows 7  and vista drivers. For Older model, you modified inf to get it work.
XP driver may work on some model, the difficult thing is to get the right version. (laptopvideo2go is the best place to start)

    GRAPHIC:
the pain is on older Intel graphic, like 82825/852GM GME and 915 graphic chipset. The method for windows 7 requires several steps to complete. Sadly in windows 8 the file in system are different and yet i still didn't found the solution. The best thing to do is look at microsoft update catalog, search for you chipset and install it manually.
For other graphic chipset, manual installation using Vista or 7 drivers normally work.

    OTHERS:
    card reader, bluetooth, LAN, Wireless,
You fuys don't really have to worry about this, from my experience, this driver not bring to much problems for users. Commonly these drivers installed along with windows installation.

I only tested with my desktop and not with any laptop yet.
This blog work with comments, all article and driver base on request, test and feedback, if you have something to share, I'm so grateful for that.
